Development industry welcomes northern connector construction announcement

14 September 2015

Today’s construction announcement regarding South Australia’s long-awaited Northern Connector motorway has been applauded by the Urban Development Institute of Australia.

The UDIA (SA), the state’s peak representative body for the urban development industry, has welcomed the Federal and State Government’s commitment to proceed with the project.

“Not only is the Northern Connector part of crucial infrastructure needed for urban development in Adelaide’s north, it also acts as a much need stimulus for the South Australian economy,” said Pat Gerace, UDIA (SA) Executive Director.

“The new motorway will not only deliver huge convenience benefits to new and existing residents of the north, but will generate hundreds of jobs and have significant commercial benefits in terms of enhancing the efficiency and safety of freight movements.

“It will also help South Australia unlock the true potential of commercial and industrial regions like Edinburgh Parks, Outer Harbor, Gillman and Port Adelaide.”

Established in 1971, the UDIA (SA) represents the interests of the development industry in South Australia in collaboration with all levels of government. It represents all sections of the urban development sector, including developers, councils and service providers such as engineers, planners and surveyors.

As the fifth largest contributor to output in SA, the property development industry employs 56,000 people or 7% of the state’s total workforce, and accounts for almost $9 billion or 12% of Gross State Product.
