Raising funds for Hutt St Centre at East End Cellars' Winter Soup Kitchen
Today sees the first of East End Cellars’ annual Winter Soup Kitchen events, to be held over the next five Thursdays to raise funds for Hutt St Centre.
Soup will be available for lunch and dinner or until sold out.
For the first time this year, business identities will join celebrity chefs to prepare soup and a crusty roll for both meals, with all proceeds going to Hutt St Centre. Customers have the option to donate an additional soup, each equating to four extra meals.
Along with the proceeds from a wine auction at each lunch being donated to Hutt St Centre, The Nunn Dimos Foundation, which generously came on board last year, has pledged to match all profits made from the soup kitchen, dollar for dollar.
Celebrity chefs to donate their time to prepare signature soups this year include Tasting Australia curator Simon Bryant, Africola’s Duncan Welgemoed, Maggie Beer, Fino’s David Swain and Sharon Romeo, and Chianti’s Frank and Maria Favaro, backed by East End Cellars chef Georgie Rogers.
Business identities include Coopers Director Dr Tim Cooper, D’Arenberg Chief Winemaker Chester Osborn, KPMG SA Chair Justin Jamieson, Sarah Constructions directors James and Tim Sarah, Perks CEO James Black, Piper Alderman Partner Tim O’Callaghan, EY Managing Partner Mark Phelps and Tilbrook Rasheed Chair of Partners, Alex Hehir.
East End Cellars’ co-director Margie Andrewartha launched soup fundraising days two years ago in response to the growing number of women and children seeking help at soup kitchens in winter.
Hutt St Centre assists nearly 3,000 people experiencing homelessness each year with housing, employment, education, nursing, meals and case management.
