The South Australian Government has announced the selection of the SA Health Partnership - a consortium comprising Hansen Yuncken, Leighton Contractors, Macquarie Capital Group and Spotless - as preferred proponent to deliver the $1.7 billion New Royal Adelaide Hospital (NRAH) as a Public Private Partnership project.
Hansen Yuncken will be responsible for design, construction and commissioning of the new hospital in a 50:50 joint venture with Leighton Contractors.
The NRAH will be Australia’s most advanced hospital, and the single largest infrastructure project in the State’s history.
Executive Chairman, Peter Kennedy, said Hansen Yuncken, together with Leighton Contractors, had assembled an experienced, high quality design and construction team drawing on expertise from around Australia and overseas.
“Hansen Yuncken is very pleased to be given the opportunity to build what will be an iconic development in South Australia as part of a Public Private Partnership with the State Government,” Mr Kennedy said.
“This significant project will continue our long term relationship with the health care community both in South Australia and through projects undertaken around Australia.
“We have recently completed or are involved in major hospital developments and upgrades across four states. The value of this project means we will be undertaking more than $2.3 billion of works in the health sector alone.”
Construction of the new RAH is expected to begin in 2011 and is scheduled for completion in 2016. It will provide a comprehensive range of complex clinical care to patients including adult medical and surgical services, emergency care, mental health, outpatient and community services, and diagnostic services.
Hansen Yuncken, established in 1918, is Australia’s largest private commercial construction contractor. The company employs more than 800 people around Australia with offices in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Hobart, Brisbane, Cairns, Townsville, Newcastle, Orange and Shepparton/Albury. Hansen Yuncken is the recipient of the 2010 ANZ/BRW Private Business of the Year Award, and National MBA Commercial Builder of the Year Award.
