The Shack's Back!

February 16, 2010

The shack’s back!   That’s the message doing the real estate rounds after a 1950s shack a block back from the beach at Middleton sold under the hammer for $705,000 last Saturday.

The selling price – well above the reserve – was achieved under Brock Harcourts Victor Harbor’s hammer with spirited bidding from two parties driving up the price and re-establishing a high benchmark for coastal holiday homes.

Selling agent Sue Brand said the result was fantastic for the vendor, the purchaser and the south coast property market.

“Our vendor was ecstatic with the result which was well above their very realistic expectations – as was the lucky purchaser, who has secured a fantastic holiday property in one of the State’s hottest holiday regions,” Sue said.

Brock Harcourts Victor Harbor Principal, Mark Forde – who is also President of the Society of Auctioneers & Appraisers – said auctions were often the best way to establish the true value of unique properties such as that sold on Saturday.

“Victor Harbor and the Fleurieu Peninsula have been identified as being among Australia’s hottest real estate markets and strongest population growth centres between now and 2050 and this sale  is a strong vote of confidence in the veracity of that prediction,” Mr Forde said.

The National Sea Change Task Force suggests the region’s population will swell from 40,000 currently to about 150,000 by 2050.
