Construction Starts On New Scotch Boarding Precinct

May 25, 2010

Construction has started on a new state-of-the-art boarding precinct at Scotch College in Torrens Park.

To be known as the ‘Rosevear Precinct’, the multi-million dollar facility will accommodate up to 104 students and include individual and shared bedrooms, common rooms with kitchenettes, laundry and storage areas, study spaces and a tutors’ suite. A large multi-purpose space incorporating catering facilities will also be established for social gatherings, meetings, training sessions and other community events. An outdoor barbecue area will also be built.

Significantly, the precinct will bring together the college’s two existing boarding houses into the one modern facility for both male and female students.

Scotch College Principal Tim Oughton says the new facility – which will adopt the latest environmental design and building management systems – has been developed in response to increased demand for boarding.

“Demand for boarding places at Scotch has increased markedly in recent years, rising from 34 students in 2007 to 88 students in 2010,” said Mr Oughton.

“The new Rosevear Precinct will allow us to grow our boarding community and provide more opportunities for young people to attend Scotch and receive a first-class education.

“Meticulously designed to deliver comfortable and contemporary accommodation for boarders and their tutors, the precinct’s multi-purpose space will also give the college terrific flexibility to host meetings, lecture programs and other community events during the day.

“The new facilities will also enable interschool, interstate and international exchanges for students and teachers, whether it be for sporting competitions, performing and visual arts master classes, training workshops or conferences and exchanges during school holidays.

“When complete we believe the Rosevear Precinct will become the envy of college boarding houses across Adelaide.”

Construction is due for completion in January in time for boarders to move in prior to the commencement of the 2011 school year.
