Badge Turns Back The Clock

22 December, 2010

The iconic clock at the head of Anzac Highway is back!

After more than a year of commuters not knowing the time or the temperature as they pass by, life as it’s known will return to normal today (Wednesday, December 22) when an updated screen is switched on by the new owners of 9 Anzac Highway, Badge Constructions.

The new screen – which comprises more than 23,000 LED pixels and will display the time, temperature, humidity and potentially community service messages updated by wi-fi - is a far cry from the original clock which was turned on in 1984 and was made up of a matrix of domestic light globes and mechanical switching gear.

The managing director of Badge Constructions, Jim Whiting, said bringing the Anzac Highway clock back to life followed the six month, $2 million refurbishment of the former Ian Berry Insurance building as the head office for over 70 Badge Constructions staff.

Established in 1983, Badge has been responsible for over $2 billion worth of construction, project and design management projects in Australia, specialising in commercial and industrial infrastructure, schools, hospitals, aged care facilities, shopping centres, food and beverage processing plants, hotels and entertainment venues.  The company currently employs more than 200 people across the country through its offices in Adelaide, Brisbane and Perth, and enjoys an annual turnover of over $300 million.

The Badge Clock will be switched on at 11.30 a.m. today (Wednesday, December 22) at the company’s new headquarters at 9 Anzac Highway, Keswick.

Badge Managing Director Jim Whiting will be available for interview.
