More than 25 members of South Australia’s Defence Teaming Centre will be exhibiting at the Avalon 2011 Australian International Airshow from March 1 to 6.
A total of 12 SA-based companies and DTC members will be demonstrating their expertise on the South Australia – The Defence State stand.
A further 14 DTC members with direct links to the defence industry in SA will also be exhibiting at the event.
DTC Chief Executive Officer, Chris Burns, says South Australia has a strong and vibrant defence aviation industry, even though it doesn’t receive the same media attention as defence maritime projects like the Air Warfare Destroyer.
“Avalon International Airshow is one of the largest and most comprehensive events of its kind in the southern hemisphere,” Mr Burns says.
“Avalon’s Aerospace and Defence Exposition presents a fantastic opportunity for our members to demonstrate their products and expertise in front of potential buyers, and of course the biggest industry client – the Australian Government through the Department of Defence.
“Adelaide is home to several influential aerospace companies in Australia, including BAE Systems, Saab Technologies and Lockheed Martin.
“Other companies that started in Adelaide and have been built up to be significant industry players include Nova Systems and Mincham Aviation.”
Avalon Airshow also has a strong land vehicle presence through its Landef exhibition, which will also involve DTC members.
Mr Burns says SA’s reputation as the Defence State is being enhanced through its presence at events such as the Avalon Airshow, and last week’s ADM Congress.
“SA-based industry leaders were extremely well represented at the recent ADM Congress, with myself, Nova Defence CEO Jim Whalley, ASC CEO Steve Ludlam, BAE Systems CEO Jim McDowell, Saab Technologies MD Lindsay Pears and Ultra Electronics Business Development Manager John Bartlett all involved in speaking engagements at the conference,” Mr Burns said.
