Bing Boy takes to the streets with new Rundle store

28 November 2014

Bing Boy will launch its first street store in Australia tomorrow (Saturday 29 November) when the doors officially open at its new Rundle Street outlet in Adelaide.

It is the urban Asian street food retailer’s first foray into stand-alone street frontage premises having until now preferred to develop stores within major food courts and shopping centres.

The Rundle Street store becomes Bing Boy’s 12th South Australian outlet and its 33rd nationwide. There are currently 18 Bing Boy stores in Victoria and three in Queensland.

Bing Boy Managing Director Ming Ma says the company-owned store will add another dimension to Rundle Street’s diverse food offering.

“Rundle Street is one of Adelaide’s busiest and most popular places to eat, drink and shop, so we’re looking forward to tapping into that and introducing our popular bings to a new band of customers,” said Mr Ma.

“Staff have been trained to work in all areas of the store from customer service to cooks to managers, while job opportunities have been given to several talented young locals endeavouring to develop their skills in the retail food industry.

“Recruitment at the Rundle Street store takes the total number of people employed by Bing Boy across company and franchise stores to approximately 350, which we’re really proud of considering the company was only established three years ago.”

Mr Ma says the Rundle Street store represents a strategic move for the company.

“This is Bing Boy’s first genuine restaurant fit-out with street frontage anywhere in Australia,” he said.

“We carefully consider locations for all Bing Boy stores, which have traditionally been confined to shopping centres and food courts. So developing a street store is something new for us, but is something we’re really excited about as we think it will give us more of a presence in Adelaide.

“We’re continually looking at ways to attract new customers and build the Bing Boy brand, so more street stores around Australia is certainly something we’re looking at very closely.”

Mr Ma says as the company grows it is also on the lookout for new franchisees and store staff.

“Bing Boy has already helped create hundreds of new jobs and develop training and career pathway opportunities for team members, which we will continue to provide as the company grows,” he said.

“Franchise opportunities are also available, particularly for owner-operators looking to partner with an exciting Australian business on the rise. We provide full assistance to new franchisees to set up and manage their store, and believe there is high growth potential for store owners as Bing Boy continues to develop as a brand.”

Bing Boy first introduced its Chinese-style wraps known as “bings” to the Australian market in 2011, and now has a growing chain of modern stores across the country that specialise in healthy urban Asian street food.

To celebrate the opening of Bing Boy’s first street store, the new Rundle Street outlet in Adelaide will give away free bings – when the doors officially open at 11am tomorrow – to the first 88 customers in honour of the number eight, which is considered lucky in Chinese culture.

Bing Boy’s Rundle Street store is located at 179 Rundle Street (in the old Kuma Jewellery gift shop next to the Rundle Street UPark at the Pulteney Street end). The store will be open from 8am-9pm Monday to Friday, 8am-10pm on Saturdays and 10am-8.30pm on Sundays.
