Parkinson’s Australia YOPX
Parkinson’s Australia is the national advocacy body for people living with Parkinson’s, their families and carers, researchers and health professionals. The organisation promotes the best possible quality of life for people with Parkinson’s. It advocates for the Parkinson’s community on issues of national significance.

Parkinson’s Australia requires occasional support to complement its in-house public affairs capabilities. The non-profit reports to a board and to funding bodies and requires detailed reporting and analysis of the impact of its campaigns.

Hughes began working with Parkinson’s Australia in 2024, delivering services including targeted digital campaigns, graphic design, media releases, media monitoring and campaign reporting.

The major pieces of work included promoting an update to the Young Onset Parkinson’s Exchange YOPX app and campaigning to ban the chemical Paraquat in Australia.

OBJECTIVES

Parkinson’s Australia engaged Hughes to enhance and complement its internal team’s communication and advocacy work.

The primary objectives were:

  • Raising awareness of Parkinson’s Australia
  • Driving traffic to Parkinson’s Australia’s online resources
  • Encouraging people to sign Parkinson’s Australia’s petition to ban Paraquat
  • Demonstrating Parkinson’s Australia’s impact to the board and funding bodies

ELEMENTS

In addition to Parkinson’s broader communication and advocacy, Hughes specifically supported targeted activity:

  • Paid social media campaigns targeted at people with Parkinson’s, their carers and medical professionals - the YOPX app update and Paraquat ban petition
  • A supported editorial content campaign promoting the YOPX app update
  • Media releases to promote Federal Budget funding and Paraquat campaign
  • Media and social media monitoring and analytics for board and funding body reporting on public relations activity
