YWCA Australia Opening
Hughes has provided public relations and media support to YWCA Australia for the past two years, working with a team across Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney.

We have been a key partner in raising the profile of YWCA Australia in Adelaide as it launched, developed and opened the first YWCA affordable housing development for women in South Australia.

YWCA is Australia’s only national specialist women’s housing provider. The leading not-for-profit organisation provides up to 125,000 nights of affordable accommodation each year for women and gender diverse people.

YWCA currently have $83 million worth of investment in housing, paving the way for the delivery of 154 new housing tenancies by June 2028.

Objectives

In March 2025, YWCA Australia opened a $15.7 million affordable housing development in Adelaide’s CBD, dedicated to providing stable, affordable, long-term rental homes for women-led families.

The development was the first purpose-built affordable accommodation project of its kind in South Australia – and now home to 57 women and their families, including those impacted by domestic and family violence.

After having supported YWCA Australia to host a sod turning ceremony in September 2023 and a topping-out media event in August 2024, the group wanted to officially open its first affordable housing development in South Australia to a range of key stakeholders, building its brand in the state.

The landmark development of 24 affordable apartments built over seven storeys in a prime CBD location overlooking Adelaide’s spectacular parklands and hills provided much more than just housing.

The development represents YWCA Australia’s commitment to ensuring women and gender-diverse people have access to homes designed for their unique needs, as part of its multi-million dollar investment in gender-responsive housing.
