Sturt appoints SANFL’s first female General Manager
Sue Dewing has been appointed General Manager Business Operations of the Sturt Football Club. She is the first female General Manager at Sturt and the first in the history of the SANFL.
Ms Dewing joins General Manager Football, Paul Sandercock, to complete the Club’s newly structured management team.
She has a long association with Sturt and is a former Vice-President and current Board Member of the Club. In 2013, Ms Dewing volunteered to take control of Sturt’s sponsorship and marketing program, producing record sponsorship results for the SANFL club, whilst also completing a Master of Business Administration (MBA).
She has been Sturt’s interim General Manager Business Operations since former CEO Matt Benson resigned in November, 2013.
Ms Dewing has extensive experience in sales, marketing and event management. Her most recent role was as Director Catering Conference Sales & Services for the famous Pebble Beach Golf Resort in California USA. Prior to this role Sue worked in Business Development managing the Event Sales team for Hilton Adelaide.
Sturt Football Club President, Jason Kilic, said Ms Dewing’s qualifications, professionalism and past experience combined with strong business acumen meant she was well qualified to build on the positive momentum being enjoyed by the Club.
“The Board went through an extensive process interviewing a strong field of applicants for the position of General Manager Business Operations,” Mr Kilic said. “We are delighted that Ms Dewing and Mr Sandercock will be managing the Club and look forward to working with them as they continue to drive the Sturt Football Club brand.
“Ms Dewing has the strong backing of the players, members, supporters, staff and the Board and is keen to continue the hard work behind the scenes which is driving the resurgence of the Sturt Football Club.”
