It's PAWGUST! And time for walkies to raise funds for Guide Dogs SA/NT

With only one month to go this winter, Guide Dogs SA/NT is encouraging all dog owners, dog sitters and dog neighbours to make the most of the chilly weather to exercise their pooches (and themselves) this PAWGUST, while raising money for a great paws.
Today is Day 1 of Guide Dogs’ annual PAWGUST fundraiser, which encourages people to walk every day in August to get moving for a good cause. Why not set a daily walking or fundraising target?
This month during PAWGUST, Guide Dogs SA/NT is providing the pawfect opportunity to raise vital funds to go towards raising and training Guide Dogs and supporting people with low vision or blindness to achieve greater independence.
Guide Dogs SA/NT CEO Aaron Chia is encouraging people to make sure their dogs are exercised regularly – as a vigorous walk is good for their health and their hearts – and owners will benefit too.
“We are encouraging everyone to pound the pavement during PAWGUST, whether you own a dog, can walk a neighbour’s pet pooch, or you just like getting out and exercising,” Mr Chia said.
“We can all rug up, and our pet pooches are already wearing their winter coats. It’s also a great opportunity for dogs to seek out new smells, new environments and different plants in cooler temperatures, along with the chance to meet new neighbourhood dogs.”
“While we’re all getting physically and mentally healthier, it’s a great chance to throw on an orange beanie, socks or scarf and to raise awareness and funds for Guide Dogs SA/NT.”
It costs more than $50,000 to raise and train a Guide Dog, providing essential support to those living with low vision or blindness.
PAWGUST pawticipants can set their goal distance, share their fundraising page, join a friendship or work team and encourage others to sponsor their walks to raise funds. The more pawticipants raise, the more rewards they unlock, including doggie bandanas, socks, beanies, t-shirts, water bottle bags and jumpers. It’s not too late to sign up either – with participants who walk throughout August to raise funds to support Guide Dogs having the chance to win a year’s worth of Black Hawk dog food, with three premium packs worth more than $1500 up for grabs.
