On your paws... go! Let's walk with purpose at the last ever PAWGUST

On the eve of PAWGUST, Guide Dogs SA/NT is encouraging everyone to brave the winter chills for one last walk to support one life-changing cause. 

It's time for all dog walkers, fitness enthusiasts and sup-pawters to lace up their sneakers and get out the dog leash from tomorrow – or join some friends for some hearty walks this winter – as part of its last ever PAWGUST.  

Walking with Minister for Human Services Katrine Hildyard this morning, Guide Dogs SA/NT is encouraging all dog owners, dog sitters and friends to walk with purpose, raising vital funds to change people’s lives from 1 August. 

Funds raised during PAWGUST will go towards raising and training Guide Dogs and supporting people with low vision or blindness to achieve greater independence, while sharing messages about the organisation's role across the country. 

Guide Dogs SA/NT Chief Executive Dan Cox said it wasn't too late to register and it was never too late to walk with purpose and make every step count, ensuring PAWGUST would have the send-off it deserved.  

“The more people who can walk their dogs or even just get out and walk around the block themselves, the more we will be raising awareness of our life-changing cause at Guide Dogs SA/NT,” Mr Cox said. 

“Exercise is essential not just for our physical and mental health, but for our furry friends. They need stimulation every day – and PAWGUST is the paw-fect time to experience new smells, new environments, different plants, and even meet different dogs.” 

It costs more than $50,000 to raise and train a Guide Dog, providing essential support to those living with low vision or blindness.  

PAWGUST paw-ticipants can still set their goal distance, share their fundraising page, join a friendship or work team, and encourage others to sponsor their walks to raise funds. The more paw-ticipants raise, the more rewards they unlock, including doggie bandanas, socks, beanies, t-shirts and jumpers. 

Minister Hildyard will be walking with Mr Cox and some furry Guide Dogs friends at 10am from the Elder Park Rotunda. The media is invited to attend.
