High tech swing to be one of this year’s hottest Fringe experiences
In a first for Adelaide, and only the second time in Australia, the BankSA Waterfall Swing is shaping up to be the hottest attraction at this year’s Adelaide Fringe.
Fringe-goers will be able to experience the thrill of swinging towards a giant curtain of water, only for it to part just in time to allow the rider to pass through without getting wet.
Described as an art installation combined with the thrill of a showground ride, the BankSA Waterfall Swing is expected to draw large crowds to the Royal Croquet Club in Victoria Square for the duration of the Fringe.
BankSA Chief Executive Nick Reade was onsite today to cheer on Fringe Chief Greg Clarke as he road-tested the festival’s latest attraction.
“The BankSA Waterfall Swing is an innovative, fun and affordable way to get into the spirit of this year’s event and we know it’s going to be a big hit,” said Mr Reade.
“We think it fits perfectly with this year’s Fringe theme to ‘experience something new’ as there is literally nowhere else in Australia you can experience this right now.”
Developed by artists Mike O’Toole, Ian Charnas and Andrew Ratcliffe at their Brooklyn studio in New York, the giant swing is fitted with a row of solenoids that are controlled by digital detectors. The swing calculates the arc of the rider and adjusts the water printing accordingly, allowing the rider to pass through an opening in the waterfall.
“We love that this attraction is unique, innovative and a truly memorable experience for the user and that’s exactly what we want to be bringing to South Australians,” said Mr Reade.
The BankSA Waterfall Swing is free throughout the Fringe (Friday 13 February – Sunday 15 March) at the following times:
Tuesday to Friday 4pm – 9pm Saturday and Sunday 11am – 9pm Monday 9 March (Public Holiday) 11am – 6pm.
The BankSA Brigade will also be offering giveaways at the swing to BankSA customers at various times Thursdays to Sundays.
