Sportsmed SA Hospital voted the State's best private hospital
Industry-leading SPORTSMED SA Hospital has been voted number one private hospital in South Australia and the second best private hospital in Australia in the annual Medibank Private Member Hospital Experience Survey, ahead of almost 150 private hospitals from around Australia.
With its headquarters at Stepney, SPORTSMED SA Hospital is a South Australian, surgeon-owned and operated private orthopaedic hospital and day surgery. It received a survey result of 81 out of 100 – significantly beating the national average of 71.
More than 17,000 patients responded to the Australia-wide survey, in which 97 per cent of respondents said they would recommend SPORTSMED SA to their family and friends.
Established in 1989, SPORTSMED SA employs more than 300 staff at its hospital, clinics and metropolitan branches in Blackwood, Henley Beach and Morphett Vale. It treats around 130,000 patients each year, with more than 8000 patients treated in the Hospital and Day Surgery annually.
Dr Andrew Saies, Chairman of the SPORTSMED SA Orthopaedic and Hospital Board, said the survey result reflects the dedication and exceptional skills of SPORTSMED SA staff.
“From our beginnings 24 years ago, one of our key priorities has been to offer South Australians the best hospital and patient care from diagnosis to recovery by specialising in orthopaedics and sporting injuries,” Dr Saies says.
“Having our vision to provide world-leading and state-of-the-art patient care recognised by this survey makes us proud as practitioners, proud of our wonderful staff and proud to be representing South Australia at a high level.
“At only 24 years old, we are none the less one of the few South Australian-owned and operated hospitals left in an industry marked by take-overs and buy-outs. Being a relatively small player in the world of hospitals, this makes the ranking all the more important to us.’’
The Medibank Private Member Hospital Experience Survey is conducted by health insurer Medibank Private, in conjunction with a market research firm, IPSOS. The survey collates responses from members who have had an overnight admission at a Medibank Private Members' Choice hospital. The survey provides insights into members' hospital admissions, including satisfaction levels with treatment and the physical environment.
