Eldercare Goodwood first aged care home to be awarded 6 Star Green Star rating

Eldercare Goodwood is the first aged care home in South Australia to be awarded a 6 Star Green Star Certification in Building Design and Construction (version 1.3) by the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA), recognising world-leading sustainability performance in building design and construction.
Green Star is Australia’s trusted sustainability rating tool for the built environment, setting the standard for better, healthier and more responsible buildings and places.
Eldercare Chief Executive Jane Pickering said Eldercare was honoured to be the first aged care home to reach this milestone and lead the way for the sector. This achievement, she said, has further endorsed Eldercare’s commitment to environmental sustainability and demonstrated it’s genuine alignment with global best practice.
“Our innovative, sustainable design has been built around our model of care to support the health and wellbeing of a rapidly ageing population who expect to age well, remain connected to community and are environmentally aware,” Ms Pickering said.
“Eldercare is committed to corporate and social responsibility, including reducing our greenhouse gas emissions and this is reflected in the design and construction of our aged care home at Goodwood.”
Eldercare Goodwood’s 100 kW solar PV system helps power an all-electric building, contributing to a reduction in electricity use.
The Goodwood site incorporates a storm water collection and reuse system for garden irrigation, rainwater storage of 150,000L , LED lighting with motion sensors and design elements including double-glazed windows and natural ventilation. In one year, Eldercare Goodwood saved:
- More than 300,000 kWh, enough to power roughly 68 average South Australian households.
- More than 1,450 kL, enough water to supply up to eight South Australian households.
Developed by the Green Building Council of Australia, Green Star has been used to certify thousands of buildings, homes and precincts around the country, driving better buildings for today and tomorrow: Green Star Rating System| Green Building Council of Australia
