Yugo Perth University Campus Student Accommodation Building Opens in Waterford

The Yugo Perth University Campus purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) project officially opens today, providing accommodation for 540 students as part of its Stage One offering.
The $200 million project, developed by Exal Group, marks global student housing brand and operator Yugo’s fifth property in Australia and second in Perth. Yugo Perth University Campus will offer a new era of student living – as Australia’s most modern student accommodation offering.
Stage One of the property features two towers with state-of-the-art recreational facilities including a gym, basketball half-court, theatre, games room, rooftop gardens, a study hall and study rooms, with students able to choose from single rooms, ensuite co-living, studios or multi-bedroom apartments.
At the completion of Stage Two, Yugo Perth University Campus will comprise 916 beds across three towers within the Greater Curtin Precinct. The third tower, which will include ground floor retail tenancies, a convenience store, food court, café, educational support facilities and restaurant is due to open next year.
Situated at Waterford, the new student accommodation offering is adjacent to both Canning College and Curtin University, providing a home for students wanting to live close to their campus, and offering creature comforts to make them feel at home.
Yugo Perth University Campus will provide much-needed accommodation for students, supporting the continued growth of Western Australia's international education sector, and demonstrating the successful collaboration between government, educational institutions and the private sector to deliver critical housing and education infrastructure.
Innovative Western Australia-based property developer Exal Group has built Stage One, with Yugo Perth University Campus its first student accommodation project, complementing its premier mixed use and residential development projects.
The Exal Group will today also launch the Exal Global Scholars Program, which will enable students from the Curtin University Malaysia campus to undertake a semester at Curtin Perth.
The scholarships are aimed at strengthening educational and cultural ties between Malaysia and Western Australia, foster greater student mobility between Curtin University’s Malaysian and Australian campuses, and provide students with valuable international learning experiences that broaden perspectives and build global connections.
The program will provided financial assistance for four students initially, to be used towards accommodation and travel expenses. The scholarships will enable students to experience life, study and culture in Western Australia while residing at Yugo Perth University Campus.
Yugo operates Yugo Adelaide City, Yugo Perth City on Stirling Street, and Yugo Berkeley Street and University Square in Melbourne.
Yugo is the first global student housing brand created to enhance students’ overall experiences throughout and beyond university life, operating more than 280 student living spaces which are home to more than 160,000 students annually, across more than 120 cities in 14 countries.
In 2023, the project was awarded Best Student Accommodation Development at the prestigious PropertyGuru Asia Property Awards (Australia).

"Students need more than simply a place to stay. They need an environment where they can feel safe, connected and supported while pursuing their education. Yugo Perth University Campus has been designed to provide exactly that—a vibrant, community-focused place for students to call home.
This project demonstrates what can be achieved when government, universities and the private sector work together towards a common objective.”
Comments attributed to Joe Persechino, Global Chief Operating Officer, Yugo:
“Student accommodation has been sadly lacking in Perth, and having a state-of-the-art home for so many students, this close to important education institutions, will ensure many families around the world will rest easier when their children take up residence here. Yugo Perth University Campus is unique, with incredible amenities and social spaces for our students to engage. Our low-rise design will allow us to bring the outside in, with natural light and outdoor spaces essential for students to feel relaxed and at home.
We exist to provide an exceptional experience for our students at Yugo as we support them throughout their educational journey. We not only provide incredible living spaces, but we support our students to grow through Yugo’s Live Your Best Life Program – built on our three pillars: YugoEco, focusing on sustainability; YuPro, connecting students with educational and job opportunities; and YuGrow, supporting personal development.
At Yugo Perth University Campus, we will support our students to not only excel academically, but thrive personally and professionally.”
