Macca’s reviews commitment to South Australian Junior Footy in 2013

21 March 2013

Participation grows by over 27% in 4 years

South Australian McDonald’s restaurant owners have renewed their commitment to junior football by extending their sponsorship of the South Australian National Football League (SANFL) development programs.

The 2013 season will be McDonald’s (SA) 5th year as the major sponsor of South Australian junior football, during which time participation among young people has grown to over 150,000 across the state.

The SANFL season starts on March 28 - the junior football program kicks off a week later with the first matches in the Macca’s Junior District Leagues (JDL) commencing in April.

McDonald’s (SA) restaurant owner representative Alan Robson said Macca’s is proud to be playing a role in helping to grow junior footy in South Australia.

“From school holiday coaching clinics at the local oval, where young South Australians are introduced to the basics of footy, to the elite under 16 and 18 state teams football is enjoying strong growth.

“Our partnership with the SANFL fits perfectly with our commitment to promoting junior sport and encouraging young people to be active.

“The partnership is about growing participation at a grass-roots level, improving the skills of kids who play football in SA and supporting our stars of the future.”

The support provided by McDonald’s (SA) includes the supply of Footy Packs to all JDL clubs, which contain training cones for each team to use and sweat bands for each player.

The packs will be delivered to clubs by McDonald’s restaurants across the State to their local clubs in the coming weeks.

In addition, McDonald’s (SA) will support a Macca’s Team Player of the Week Award which has been designed to promote good sportsmanship among young players.

In 2013, the renewed partnership will see McDonald’s continue as the major sponsor and supporter of all SANFL junior football competitions in South Australia, including the SANFL elite Under 18s competition, which will again be known as the Macca’s Cup.

The partnership also includes:

  • Naming rights  sponsor of the McDonald’s U18s State Team
  • Naming rights sponsor of the McDonald’s U16s State Team
  • Naming rights sponsor of the U16s competition (to be known as Macca’s U16s Talent Shield)
  • Macca’s Promotional Clinics
  • Macca’s School Holiday Clinics
  • Macca’s Juniors Premiers Cup
  • Macca’s Saturday Morning Football (SASFA or SA School Football Association)
  • Macca’s Nine-A-Side
  • Macca’s intra-school program
  • Macca’s Junior District Leagues

Brenton Phillips, SANFL High Performance Manager, Talent and Coaching said we’re delighted to have McDonalds on board again this year as the naming rights sponsors for our Junior Development Programs.

“This is an exciting area of the SANFL business for McDonalds to be involved with as it’s where many of our players start their involvement with the Elite under 16 and under 18 squads, it’s really the first look we get at the future stars of our game.

“McDonalds support means we can continue to provide high quality coaching and development programs to these junior players, who are the future of our competition, and we certainly value their continued involvement.”
