Ergo attracting young buyers back into the city

$29 million worth of apartments sold in first six months

Adelaide homebuyers are flocking to the city with Ergo Apartments on Sturt Street announcing more than $29 million worth of sales in the first six months of release, including a penthouse sale for more than $900,000.

The low-rise residential development by Hindmarsh and the Adelaide City Council is leading a transformation of the south-western quarter of the CBD, which is fast becoming an inner-city hotspot for property buyers.

The first stage of Ergo comprising more than 50 apartments is almost sold out, with apartments in the second stage now on the market and generating enormous interest too.

Ergo sales agent Julianne Price says the project has struck a chord with purchasers, including young buyers wanting to live in the city.

“We’re absolutely thrilled with the initial response from buyers who are snapping up the spacious apartments, including young purchasers who want to live that vibrant, inner-city lifestyle,” she said.

“The broad range of apartment options has been really well received by the market, many to suit particular lifestyles of buyers. For example, the apartments with bigger bedrooms, walk-in robes and baths are proving more popular with female buyers, while the men tend to focus on the main living area, storage space and balcony size.”

Occupational therapist Leah Duthy, 24, has just made the leap into home ownership after purchasing a new two-bedroom apartment at Ergo.

“My apartment features a big main bedroom, bath and extra wardrobe space, while the car park that came with the apartment was another major draw card,” said Leah, who works in the northern suburbs 45 minutes from the city.

“Because I work in the suburbs I really want to live in the city to enjoy the buzz and convenience, but also to just feel like I’m part of the action with all the great things happening in Adelaide.”

Veterinarian Nick Penglase, 31, has also purchased a two-bedroom apartment at Ergo – in the low $400,000 range – and says being part of a developing city was a key motivation in his purchasing decision.

“I work in the suburbs but really like the city lifestyle which was the main reason I bought at Ergo,” he said.

“It’s so close to cool pubs and restaurants and of course the Central Market, while the apartments themselves are much more spacious and affordable than other similar properties on the market.”

Former hospitality lecturer Greg Fulton, 55, has just purchased a penthouse apartment in Ergo – a three-bedroom property spanning 175sqm – and is excited to be moving back into the city after living in a house at Hawthorn for more than 30 years.

“I love the idea of living in the city and being able to take advantage of all the facilities and infrastructure that come with it,” he said.

“For me, the biggest selling point about Ergo was that while it’s an inner-city apartment complex, it has a genuine community vibe to it and doesn’t feel like a hotel. For example, the lift that will service my apartment will only service three other apartments on the same floor, not dozens like most other apartment complexes.”

Ergo Development Manager Morry Canala says the development – designed by architecture firm Hames Sharley – features the best that city living has to offer and integrates excellence in design and sustainable living with a fantastic location.

“Residents are in easy walking distance to the restaurants of Gouger Street, the Adelaide Central Market and the city centre on the one side, with the beautiful South Parklands on the other in addition to many other attractions in the area,” he said.

“Ergo will also feature some generous outdoor landscaped spaces that have been carefully planned to access sunlight, while important security measures are also included such as underground car parking and secure bike storage.”

Ergo will ultimately incorporate 182 high quality one, two and three-bedroom apartments situated around a multi-purpose community building that will become the hub of the development. Subject to community engagement, it may be used as a meeting place and for activities such as yoga classes, art exhibitions and book launches.

The project will deliver an average seven-star NATHERS energy rating and feature 20 per cent public open space including a central piazza for residents incorporating safe pedestrian links through the complex for public use.

Construction of Stage 1 apartments continues and is due for completion in November ahead of the scheduled completion of Stage 2 apartments by the end of next year.
