Young Adelaide engineer wins industry scholarship
Young Adelaide-based civil engineer Nick Pope has been chosen ahead of a host of emerging development industry professionals to win the annual Stuart Main Young Development Professional Scholarship.
A talented civil engineer at CIC Australia, Nick has already gained extensive experience in general civil engineering design and construction, including sub-division projects. Currently, he is also a project manager for CIC Australia’s award-winning Lightsview project.
The scholarship is named after the late Stuart Main – a prominent planner and lawyer – and is valued at $4,000, including $1,000 cash, mentoring and committee membership activities, and registration at major development industry events throughout 2015.
UDIA (SA) Executive Director Terry Walsh said Nick joins a prominent list of scholarship winners.
“The UDIA is committed to providing young professionals with career and networking opportunities. Nick will be the ambassador for other emerging young professionals and act as a link between young industry members, the UDIA and the industry at large,” he said.
Mr Walsh said that choosing the scholarship winner was an extremely difficult task.
“We have so many talented young men and women in the development industry, all pursuing fantastic careers along different paths, so it was an incredibly difficult decision,” he said.
Established in 1971, the UDIA (SA) represents the interests of the development industry in
South Australia in collaboration with all levels of government. It represents all sections of the urban development sector, including developers, councils and service providers such as engineers, planners and surveyors.
As the fifth largest contributor to output in SA, the property development industry employs 56,000 people or 7% of the state’s total workforce, and accounts for almost $9 billion or 12% of Gross State Product.
