Adelaide Airport first to welcome Virgin Australia's 'Lounge of the Future'
Adelaide Airport has welcomed the opening of Virgin Australia’s new ‘lounge of the future’ - part of the airport’s current terminal expansion project.
Virgin Australia has indicated the new lounge is the first product to be launched for travellers since it entered new ownership in November, offering a new look and design which the airline says it will introduce to its other lounges around the country.
Adelaide Airport Managing Director, Mark Young, said he was delighted that Virgin Australia had chosen Adelaide to launch its new-look lounge design.
“Virgin Australia has embraced the opportunity to expand and completely redesign its Adelaide Airport lounge to complement our significant terminal expansion project currently underway,” Mr Young said.
“While it has been a particularly challenging time for the aviation sector, we’ve been getting on with the terminal expansion including a new international arrivals and departures area, a larger duty-free precinct, and a significantly expanded retail and dining precinct.
“Our aim is to provide a seamless, connected experience from the time you drive into the airport until you board your aircraft, and vice versa. The new Virgin lounge further adds to that customer experience for our travellers.”
The terminal expansion project is the first major terminal development since the current terminal was opened in 2005. The terminal expansion will see a complete refurbishment of retail areas, resulting in a more than 80 per cent increase in the overall size of the terminal’s retail and dining precinct across domestic and international areas.
International upgrades will include a second, longer baggage belt for arrivals, more space for emigration and immigration processing, expanded security screening, a larger duty-free precinct for arrivals and departures, and expanded dining and retail options.
The new international departures area and northern retail concourse opened in December 2020.
Work is progressing well on the next stages of the expansion project, including the new international arrivals, a common-user premium international lounge, more retail space and a new home for the Vickers Vimy.
