The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) has granted approval to South Australian-based international biotech company MicroSafe Care Australia, supporting its claims that its registered hospital-grade disinfectant and sanitiser, Nanocyn, kills SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) in 15 seconds.

MicroSafe Managing Director Matt Seifert said Nanocyn was the first natural product in the world to eliminate COVID-19 in 15 seconds, and it is now confirmed to be the only hospital-grade disinfectant and sanitiser in Australia that can kill the COVID-19 causing virus SARS-CoV-2 at such a fast rate, compared to other more traditional products which take between one and 10 minutes to kill viruses on the surface. The very short contact time of 15 seconds means that high frequency touch-point cleaning against COVID-19 is now up to 40 times faster than previously considered.

Nanocyn has been registered with the TGA and entered into the ARTG (Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods) as a hospital-grade disinfectant able to kill bacteria and viruses including SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19), Norovirus (Gastro), Influenza, fungi and mould by up to 99.9999% (which is known as a 6-log reduction).

“Nanocyn is a game-changer for any hospital, aged care or health service, transport-provider, business, school, tourism or hospitality venue and even office space wanting to ensure their premises are COVID-safe, not just from a pandemic point of view but also having been disinfected with a product that does not leave any harmful residues behind that could cause -other health issues in the long-term,” Mr Seifert said.

“It’s the fastest-acting product in Australia, leaves no residue and is non-toxic, which means it’s safe for those whose immune systems are compromised. It is the only TGA-registered disinfectant in Australia to also be GECA (Good Environmental Choice Australia) certified.

“The TGA additional approval has also been timely as we know states will be re-opening borders before Christmas. Ensuring COVID-19 can be eliminated quickly in public areas will be reassuring for millions of people.”

In sizable locations, such as commercial buildings, schools, hospitals and health and aged care facilities – ranging through to aircraft, public buildings and vehicles - Nanocyn ca be used as a fogging agent. It is certified by all major aviation manufacturers not to damage materials, as it does not contain any quaternary ammonia compounds or alcohols.

Microsafe’s client base in Australia is wide and varied.  It ranges from NSW Health and WA Health to Jayco, which use it to disinfect all newly-built caravans, Ultra Tune  and major car manufacturers to properly clean cars without damaging upholstery, the RFDS in Queensland and Western Australia, Brisbane City Council, Adelaide Airport, aviation providers, major public transport providers, mining companies, the Palais Theatre in Melbourne and other entertainment venues, and by AFL teams.

Nanocyn is used by expert facilities management companies and leading property managers in major CBD-based office buildings in all Australian capitals, as well as aged care facilities and in hospitals and health services.

Internationally, MicroSafe’s products are widely-used throughout the Middle East, Canada and Europe.

As a product which does not include alcohol/ethanol, Nanocyn is used to disinfect the Grand Mosque in Mecca, which has the capacity to accommodate more than four million visitors a day. For the same reason, the product is widely used in Saudi Arabia in all government hospitals and health services, in Bahrain and in the United Arab Emirates, where the Dubai Ambulance Service and Etihad Airlines are amongst some of the valued clients.
