IKEA Perth forms new partnership to help women and children escaping domestic violence
IKEA Perth is helping women and children escaping domestic violence to set up a new home through a new partnership with the Stirling Women’s Centre.
Last month, the store made its first delivery of two pallets of homewares to the Centre. Earlier in the year, IKEA also donated Christmas hampers to the centre.
The Centre will distribute the goods to women in need.
IKEA Perth Store Manager Ola Arven said the Stirling Women’s Centre provides valuable support to women and children in need and we want to find an ongoing way to support them.
“We hope by continuing to donate, will can make a small difference to the women and children making a fresh start. It will help them turn their new house into a home,” said Mr Arven.
In addition, IKEA Perth is also now in the process of donating outdoor furniture for a courtyard at the Centre itself. This donation will take place in the next few weeks.
The store has also started to engage its co-workers in supporting the Centre through the donation of toiletries like shampoo, soap, toothbrushes and toothpaste. Donation boxes have been set up in the co-worker entrance.
The Mayor, Cr David Boothman said this is a great initiative.
"We are delighted IKEA is working in partnership with the City to support these families when they need it most," Mayor Boothman added.
If people would like to make their own donations, they should contact the Centre direct on 9205 7375.
