South Australia’s best seniors living development in 2014 is… Mount Barker Lifestyle Village
The Mount Barker Lifestyle Village in the Adelaide Hills has been officially recognised as the best residential address for senior South Australians.
The village by Lifestyle SA has been awarded the best “Seniors Living” destination for retirees with a special commendation at the Urban Development Institute of Australia’s 2014 South Australian Awards for Excellence.
Incorporating 157 residential homes including formal and informal living areas, garages and fully maintained gardens, the village also includes a multi-million dollar community centre for residents.
UDIA (SA) award judges praised Lifestyle SA for developing a well-conceived, delivered and managed project for South Australian retirees.
“Lifestyle SA has developed another successful village. The project contains an extensive range of recreational lifestyle facilities and amenities which are traditionally sought by this growing market segment,” noted the judges.
“This development clearly meets a demand in the retirement market. One of the new features of this project is the massive rainwater storage tank under the bowling green which complements the broader township’s firefighting water supply.
“As with other Lifestyle SA projects, the building quality is of a high standard and community facilities are comprehensive.”
Located on Lysander Court off Hurling Drive, the Mount Barker Lifestyle Village is a resort-style retirement village including recreational facilities and state-of-the-art security.
Leisure facilities include a lawn bowling green and bocce court, while the community centre includes an indoor heated swimming pool, hydrotherapy spa, billiards lounge and gymnasium, in addition to a hairdressing salon, function rooms and bars for socialising.
Security measures include automatic card-only vehicle and pedestrian access gates at the entrance, with closed circuit cameras connected to residents’ televisions.
Lifestyle SA General Manager Stephen Norris says the Mount Barker Lifestyle Village is deserving of the best Seniors Living award from the UDIA, which is the peak industry body for the property development industry in SA.
“Our biggest challenge at the moment is to keep up with demand for homes in our Lifestyle Villages, including in the Adelaide Hills where high quality retirement living options are in short supply,” said Mr Norris.
“The Mount Barker Lifestyle Village provides a new, low maintenance housing option tailored to suit the specific needs of the region’s growing population of over-55s, and importantly has helped ease the critical shortage of retirement housing in the region.
“Winning this UDIA award and being recognised by your industry peers is fantastic, while it’s also great news for village residents and provides further evidence to them that they’ve made the right decision to purchase at Mount Barker.”
Lifestyle SA has 11 Lifestyle Villages across Adelaide, including Happy Valley, Seaford, Pasadena, Woodcroft and Mount Barker in the south, and Evanston Park, Walkley Heights, Salisbury East, Hope Valley, Parafield Gardens and Golden Grove in the north.
