Adelaide Convention Centre Lego fan event attracts 25,000
The Adelaide Convention Centre has delivered on its promise to create South Australia’s biggest ever LEGO® fan event by attracting 25,000 visitors over two days to the inaugural Brick-a-laide.
More than 20,000 tickets were sold online ahead of the event with an additional 5,000 sold on the door.
Brick-a-laide, which is now set to become an annual event, was held on Good Friday and Easter Saturday and attracted LEGO enthusiasts of all ages including many families and young children
The visually spectacular event featured 67 displays by 50 local and interstate modellers and creators, with California-based, internationally renowned LEGO Artist and Instruction Author Mariann Asanuma making her first Australian appearance to showcase her internationally recognised mosaics.
Adelaide Convention Centre Chief Executive Alec Gilbert said Brick-a-laide captured the imagination of South Australians.
“We knew LEGO had universal appeal but wanted to make sure the Centre created an event that would be memorable for visitors and exhibitors, said Mr Gilbert.
“The Centre’s Halls provided the space for exhibitors to have their work displayed in an appropriate manner and entry was staggered in hourly blocks to allow visitors browse the displays in comfort.
“Over the two days, Brick-a-laide welcomed an average of 1,500 visitors an hour to tour the exhibits before they made their way into the LEGO market to visit the ‘Brick Café’, relax and play with LEGO and grab some goodies to take home.”
The success of Brick-a-laide builds on the Centre’s growing reputation for creating, hosting and running popular public events to fill gaps in the conferencing calendar.
The Centre’s annual Cellar Door Wine Festival, which is held every February, attracts over 9,000 visitors over three days.
Recently, the Centre also created a series of public events to mark the opening of its new West Building, which attracted more than 18,000 visitors.
