Thebarton Oval now named Adelaide Airport Stadium in SA Amateur Football League deal

23 March 2012

Thebarton Oval has been renamed Adelaide Airport Stadium starting from the 2012 footy season as part of a new partnership with the South Australian Amateur Football League (SAAFL).

The footy season kicks off tonight under lights at Adelaide Airport Stadium for an SANFL game between the Eagles and the Magpies, while the SAAFL season will start on April 14.

Adelaide Airport Ltd (AAL) Managing Director Mark Young said the airport was proud to be the new naming rights sponsor for Adelaide Airport Stadium, which is operated by the SAAFL.

“The SA Amateur Football League is a not-for-profit organisation with a proud 100 year history, and the community benefits of supporting the largest Australian Rules competition in Australia are appealing to our organisation.

“Tens of thousands of South Australians will play at Adelaide Airport Stadium this year, ensuring our support will help foster the competition and its community ties alike.

“The proximity of the stadium to our airport and the fact that all planes approaching the airport from the east have a view of the oval contributes to a perfect partnership.

“Supporting a great organisation promoting healthy sporting activity for so many South Australians, and a sporting venue that has so many community uses, played an important part in our decision to take up the naming rights.”

NEWS EDITORS AND BROADCASTERS NOTE:  Adelaide Airport Ltd and the SAAFL ask that you refer to ‘Adelaide Airport Stadium’ for all football matches played at the ground this year – both SAAFL and SANFL – as you would for other suburban grounds with similar naming rights sponsorship arrangements.
