Helping Hand partners with Findon Technical College to offer career opportunities in aged care

11 December 2023

Helping Hand is partnering with the Findon Technical College, which is set to open for term one in 2024, to offer career opportunities for students interested in allied health, social support and aged care.

Recognising the future workforce needs of the aged care industry – in roles from nursing to personal care workers and everything in between – Helping Hand sees the opportunity to partner with the Technical College as a step towards growing the industry and meeting future challenges.

The Technical College will be open to students in years 10 to 12, providing job-ready training to ensure students are ready to enter the workforce once they finish their SACE or vocational education studies.

The Technical College will feature state-of-the-art facilities, and by partnering with an organisation such as Helping Hand, will also be able to provide educational and training opportunities on-site and as placements.

Helping Hand will employ up to 20 students each year once they have completed their studies, guaranteeing Findon Technical Students a job in a role they’ve trained for and which they’re passionate about, ready to hit the ground running.

Helping Hand has been operating across metropolitan and regional South Australia for over 70 years and supports more than 7,000 older people in more than 20 locations. With an ageing population there is a growing need to increase its workforce to ensure its community clients and care home residents, who it provides services for, are looked after with care and understanding.

Helping Hand Executive Manager People, Culture and Quality, Natalie Morris said the partnership was a great opportunity for industry and educational collaboration. “Many young people are interested in caring roles in our community, and that includes allied health, aged care and social support roles,” Ms Morris said.

“By creating a pathway for students, we can encourage them to consider a career with an aged care provider, which they can walk into immediately after completing their studies.”

“Working in aged care is extremely rewarding, and we’re thrilled to be involved in this unique partnership.”
